“All Messed Up”, Textbook’s fifth full-length LP, continues to draw from the veteran band’s Midwestern influences like The Replacements, Hüsker Dü, Naked Raygun, and Guided By Voices yet cranks up the pop appeal courtesy of Chicago hit-maker Matt Allison at Atlas Studios. But with 11 songs clocking in at under 30 minutes, guest vocals by punk heavyweights Jeff Pezzati (Naked Raygun) and Dan Vapid (ex-Screeching Weasel, The Riverdales), and a new Chicago indie label, Torture Chamber Records (owned and operated by Dan Vapid & The Cheats), Textbook’s punk roots are still firmly planted.
